Terms of Service

Effective May 28, 2026.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of LowEarth — the website at lowearth.app, including all per-object pages, embeds, APIs, and email alerts. By using LowEarth you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. The service

LowEarth is a free satellite + debris tracker operated by Brian L (sole proprietor) showing publicly available orbital data. We propagate positions from Two-Line Element (TLE) sets published by CelesTrak and enrich the catalog with information from Wikipedia, Wikidata, NASA NSSDCA, Wikimedia Commons, and TheSpaceDevs Launch Library 2.

2. Not for operational use

LowEarth is provided for informational, educational, and entertainment purposes only. Positions, pass predictions, decay forecasts, and all other data are propagated from public TLEs and accumulate error over time. Even at the moment of publication, TLE-based positions are accurate to approximately 1 kilometer for fresh TLEs and degrade rapidly thereafter.

Do not rely on LowEarth for: collision avoidance, satellite operations, navigation, launch planning, surveillance, financial decisions, insurance underwriting, regulatory filings, or any other activity where errors have real consequences. For operational space situational awareness, contact a commercial provider such as LeoLabs, Slingshot Aerospace, COMSPOC, Kayhan Space, or the official Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS) operated by the United States Office of Space Commerce.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for any unlawful purpose, including violations of applicable export control regulations.
• Scrape the site at rates that materially impact other users (more than 1 request/sec sustained from a single IP without prior arrangement).
• Bypass technical controls or attempt to access systems you are not authorized to access.
• Resell or sublicense access to LowEarth without our written permission.
• Misrepresent LowEarth's data as your own work without proper attribution.

4. Embed widget

You may embed LowEarth's widgets (any iframe sourced from lowearth.app/embed/*) on your website for editorial, educational, or non-commercial use, subject to:

• The attribution link (“Live tracking by LowEarth”) must remain visible and clickable.
• You must not alter the embed's appearance to misrepresent its source.
• For high-traffic deployments (more than 100,000 impressions/month) or commercial use without attribution, contact us at hello@lowearth.app for a commercial license.

5. Intellectual property

The LowEarth name, logo, design, and proprietary computed layers (decay forecasts, constellation graphs, news aggregation, page narrative authored by us) are © Brian L. Visual design and page structure are reserved; you may not clone the site.

Third-party content displayed on LowEarth is owned by and used under license from its respective rights holders:

• TLE data: public-domain orbital elements from CelesTrak (originally published by the US 18th Space Defense Squadron)
• Wikipedia summaries: CC-BY-SA 4.0, displayed in clearly labeled attribution boxes
• Wikidata structured data: CC0
• NASA images: typically public domain (US government works); per-file attribution preserved
• ESA images: typically CC-BY-SA 3.0 IGO unless noted; per-file attribution preserved
• TheSpaceDevs Launch Library 2 data: attribution requested per their terms

6. Disclaimer of warranties

LOWEARTH IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, accurate, or current.

7. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL LOWEARTH, BRIAN L, OR ANY AGENT THEREOF BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100).

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold LowEarth and Brian L harmless from any claim or demand arising out of (a) your use of the service in violation of these Terms, (b) your infringement of any third party right, or (c) your violation of any applicable law.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the service at any time for any reason, with or without notice. You may stop using the service at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law) will survive.

10. Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Fulton County, Georgia, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page with an updated effective date and, if you are a subscriber, via email. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
