The Kaituozhe-1 (also written KT-1) is a Chinese small solid-fueled orbital launch vehicle developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). Derived from ballistic missile technology, it represents one of China's early efforts to develop a compact, road-mobile rocket capable of placing small payloads into low Earth orbit. The name "Kaituozhe" translates roughly as "Pioneer" in English, reflecting its intended role as a pathfinder for a new generation of lightweight Chinese launch systems.

Design and Capabilities

Standing 18 meters tall with a diameter of 2 meters, the Kaituozhe-1 is a relatively compact vehicle by orbital launch standards. Its all-solid propulsion stack — drawing heritage from Chinese intercontinental ballistic missile programs — offers the theoretical advantage of rapid preparation and simplified ground support compared to liquid-fueled rockets.
